Rogan is a loner, but not in the traditional sense. Socially, he conveys an outward appearance of being quite amicable. At his heart, though, Rogan is always alone. His isolation is of the inward variety. It is an isolation that has been tempered through the mind’s eye of a disciplined gunslinger. But often this mentality causes him to be misunderstood. The only time he truly feels that he fits in is when he’s in a gunfight. That’s when he really shines.
He is sometimes regarded as being secretive because he isn’t always very forthcoming with whatever thoughts may be on his mind. This is not because Rogan is being deceptive; rather he is simply introverted in his thinking processes. In due time, though, once he has had a chance to ruminate in his thoughts, Rogan will say what’s on his mind. And when he does, he’ll not beat around the bush.
Rogan can and does get along with a variety of differing personality types. He is willing to accept another person’s opinion if he can see the logic in it. Though, despite these redeeming qualities, Rogan often comes off as cool and distant, even indifferent and uncaring. It is this cunning ability to detach himself from all emotional thought that comes to bear when he is flinging lead. He isn’t even sure how he does it. He just knows that when talking is done and fighting is about to begin, he shuts off all thinking and reacts on instinct alone.
When "in the zone," Rogan is viewed by others as being cold and calculating. Ever present in his fighting demeanor is a hungry fixation on absolute annihilation. In his eyes the glint of a singular consciousness sparkles with a maddening intensity: one bent on dispensing unrivalled pain and suffering. To Rogan, this change is necessary to survive. However, to those who look on (be they companions or foes), the change is so much a diametric opposite from his normal demeanor that most cannot help but be unnerved by his actions.
Being Irish, fighting is second nature to Rogan. If he were asked a question as to whether he liked a good fight, his likely response would be, "Of course I do. How else am I supposed to knock the shit outta someone?" Indeed, with or without guns, Rogan is a formidable opponent, unremorseful, relentless and sinister. If, perchance, his guns were rendered inoperable or were wrested from him, he would hold his own just fine.
Rogan is exceedingly dexterous and ambidextrous; his hands can reload, disassemble and reassemble guns so fast that his movements almost seem to be a blur. He carries as many as six guns on his person at any given time. Two shoulder holstered, two more at the waist and a final two holstered just below each knee.
At 6’ 4”, Rogan is a pretty tall guy, but he is surprisingly agile for a person of his height. He weighs in at an even 200 pounds. His musculature is noticeable, but it is very lean and wiry. Though Rogan is quite strong, because of his lanky build, he is often misconstrued as not being a very intimidating individual. This misconception is easily remedied by gazing into his fiery, intense eyes.
Rogan has a long, slender face, with bony features. He has a scar that runs from his right cheekbone in a semicircular curve, over the midpoint of his lower jaw, terminating in a starburst pattern on his upper neck. (He received this scar from an unknown assailant in a gunfight from his early military days. Unknown, because when Rogan was done with him, he was no longer capable of speech, much less the drawing in of breath). His hazel eyes are deep-set in their sockets, replete with faint black bags that denote a sense of constant, haggard fatigue (despite this, Rogan usually gets seven to eight hours of sleep a night whenever possible). His hair is an almost unnatural shade of red, and is perpetually unkempt.
Growing up, Rogan was exceptional at all types of sports: from cricket to basketball, rugby to hockey. He was especially good at throwing. From there, it didn't take long for him to discover that his ability to aim also translated smoothly to shooting. He took up archery and shooting as a competitive sport at university, where he excelled and won countless awards for excellent marksmanship.
As a boy, Rogan had fancied the idea of one day getting into law enforcement, as do so many boys around that age. Not long after graduation from university, he was offered a position on a special ops team for counter-terrorism. Apparently, the military had had their eye on him from his university days with his archery and sharp shooting teams.
And so he was trained in the ways of a sniper/assassin. It was a training that, much to the military's pleasure, took hold extremely well. Things were starting to look up for Rogan. Whenever a difficult job needed to be handled, Rogan and his team were sent in to sort things out. They conducted all of their operations under his order with swift and blinding precision. All of this, however, was soon to change.
Rogan's team was sent in on what seemed, at the time, a routine mission. A mission that Rogan often dubbed a "shut-eye" mission, as his team could complete it in their sleep. Their briefing had said there was a group of terrorists holding several hostages on the 21st floor of a 44 story high rise building in the downtown business sector.
Rogan was on the roof of a neighboring building, scouting out for snipers and guiding his team by remote headset, so they could safely complete their insertion. In those crucial moments, when his attention was lessened by this concern for the safety of his team, Rogan erred. He had failed to notice three terrorists perched up on an even higher rooftop. Each of them fired a rocket from a shoulder launcher. Rogan could only stand by helpless in the seeming eternity that elapsed as he watched the rockets careen to the rooftop where his team now awaited its demise.
At the subsequent court-martial, Rogan was cleared of all charges. He was even given a commendation. But the whole situation just left a foul taste in his mouth, and not long after he filed for an honorable discharge, which he received.
Since then, Rogan has had a problem working with teams. He doesn't want a repeat of that horrible day happening again on his watch. Despite this sentiment, Rogan often still does work with a team because even he cannot deny the added advantages of having someone to watch his back during crucial moments. He endeavors to uphold a higher honor code than during his military days. This is evident in his characteristic fierceness at protecting the innocent. It is even more evident in the mercilessness he dispenses in spades when dealing with his enemies.
In his mind, Rogan views any adversary as being no different than the rooftop rocket launcher assassins who snuffed out his team all those years ago. And in that frame of mind, it is all too easy for Rogan to shut off every emotion except for the most rudimentary and fundamental hatred for his foes. All the care, compassion, sympathy, empathy and concern, that are there at one moment are as gone as yesterday's trash the next. When in this mindset, Rogan demonstrates frightening lethality and has a nearly unquenchable desire to liquidate evil whenever it has the audacity to show itself before him.
